The Boxtrolls | Stop Motion Video

Last year we had the opportunity to work on the DVD Featurettes for the (possibly Oscar Nominated) stop motion feature film “The Boxtrolls”. We were lucky enough to work over the last couple of years with Laika Films and Focus Features on other feature films as well such as the stop motion film “Coraline” and Tim Burton’s “9”.

At the end of The Boxtrolls movie, there is a short clip showing the insane amount of work that goes into making these characters move and speak. Check out the video below to see how much work goes into making a film this way.

As you can see, there is a ton of: capture the scene, move the character, look at the script, move the mouth, change the facial expression… just an absolutely amazing amount of paying attention to detail to make sure you get the shots done correct.

In the next video, the producers show how they captured many of these amazing moments, like dripping/moving water in a scene. Video production at its finest!
